What is Healthy?

My health coach training program has officially begun, and I couldn't be more thrilled to embark on this transformative journey. Until now, health and nutrition haven't been at the forefront of my daily considerations. While I've understood the basics—opting for fruits and vegetables over sugar, and recognizing the importance of regular exercise—I've never delved deeply into the holistic approach to well-being.

As I train to become a health coach, I'm eager to explore health from all angles: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. I'm curious to discover how these realms intersect and how societal pressures influence our perceptions of what it means to be healthy.

Occasionally, events prompt me to reassess my beliefs. Witnessing someone who appears healthy on the outside but battles cancer challenges my assumptions. It leads me to ponder: What truly defines health? Is it reflected in a certain clothing size? Or perhaps it's measured by blood sugar levels, physical strength, or even how easily a person climbs a flight of stairs.

In a world inundated with directives on the "correct" way to eat, exercise, and live, it's easy to feel overwhelmed and disconnected from our own inner wisdom. Yet, I firmly believe that each individual possesses a unique path to health—one that respects both physical needs and emotional well-being. It's about cultivating balance, flexibility, and self-compassion, rather than striving for unattainable perfection.

As your coach, my aim is to assist you in discovering a balance that resonates with you—a balance not just for today or this month, but one that sustains you throughout your lifetime. Together, we'll redefine what it means to be healthy. There will be no "shoulds" or shaming, no rigid rules or standards imposed upon you. Instead, we'll work to embrace the interconnectedness of body, mind, and soul.

Let us remember that in the end, true health is not about doing things “right,” but about finding joy, fulfillment, and happiness in every moment of our lives. Honoring the unique journey each of us travels.
